DEFTONES Struggled To Make New Album
September 18, 2006Launch Radio Networks reports: DEFTONES will finally release their new album, "Saturday Night Wrist", on October 31 after a nearly three-year struggle to get the CD finished. Guitarist Stephen Carpenter told Launch that writing and recording the project was more complicated than anyone could have expected. "We went through so many things, you know, so many issues going through this process," he said. "Songs have been written, musically and lyrically, have been written in multiple places, Sacramento, Connecticut, Seattle, L.A., you know. We've recorded in all these spots. Multiple producers and engineers...it's been quite an experience, some of it good, some of it bad."
The first single from "Saturday Night Wrist" is called "Hole In The Earth".
Drummer Abe Cunningham told AOL Music that the recording of the band's fifth album "was not fun at all, and not pleasant. It was horrendous. It made me very sad." He added, "We weren't communicating...we didn't like each other."
The group began work on the disc with veteran producer Bob Ezrin, but that relationship did not pan out. Tensions also flared within the band when singer Chino Moreno took time off to focus on his side project, TEAM SLEEP.
The DEFTONES are currently on the Family Values tour with KORN, 10 YEARS, STONE SOUR and others, which stops tomorrow (Tuesday, September 19) in Tampa, Florida.
